Small world
This doesn’t really have anything to do with info lit, but I thought I’d share anyway…most people who know me don’t realize that at one point in my life I was known by numerous young boys as the “Leather Lady.” Now, before you pick up the phone to call America’s Most Wanted, let me give you some background…when I was in high school and later throughout college, I worked summers at an all-boys camp on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. I started out as a kitchen girl, but eventually learned the art of leatherworking and became the camp’s leather craft instructor, aka the “Leather Lady.” We made belts and leather boxes and keychains and at some point I came up with a design for home-made leather hackey sacks, too. So why am I blogging about this? Well, today in the San Diego airport someone came up to me while I was waiting for my bags and said, “Is your name Celia?” Turns out it was a guy who I’d been a counselor with back at Camp Kabeyun (he taught sailing). I hadn’t seen him since we were Woodchucks together back in the day. He and his wife were in town for a wedding. Like I said…small world. And I haven’t even made it over to the conference yet!
